Molecular Detection of Y Chromosome Microdeletions
Many men with Y chromosome microdeletions exhibit no clinical symptoms and lead completely normal lives. However, it has been shown that men with reduced fertility, including approximately 20% of those with low sperm production, carry microdeletions in specific AZF genes on the Y chromosome.
For men with oligozoospermia (significantly reduced sperm count) or azoospermia (complete absence of sperm), molecular testing for Y chromosome microdeletions is considered essential.
